The actual name for this cool unit, is a MASTERGUARD Single Station Heat Detector MODEL: MG 40 FT.
I picked this up recently for the collection. It is a cool piece of forgotten home protection history!
Back in the day, there where no electronic smoke detectors for the home, you had to rely on this fancy wind up ‘fire alarms’ they would ‘sense’ a high temperature from the fire and pop off the thermal disk and trigger the spring ring the bell. I go into more detail in this video,
I went about doing a full polish and shine on this unit, never seen it done! The bell is aluminum so would take a shine, but would take many hours to get the rough surface finish to a shine.
