This very unique style of balance scale was found in very bad shape as parts, I set out to bring some new life back to this forgotten fascinating piece of history. This video will explain everything.
Here are the photos from the restoration process.
As you can see it was in very bad condition, but salvageable. None of the bolts on the bottom wanted to budge, so going to have to blast it first to free things up!
Now that I can see what I am working with, it is time to start polishing up the metal!
Once I came up with a solution for the new pivot points and brackets it was time to get it into paint, and start assembly! I went with a black hammer finish paint, for it fit with its age.
The gold letters where hand painted and everything else is original Brass just brushed! Now to do the name plate! I ground the original rivets to remove it from the back side, and set about with the buffing wheel to gently take away all the old dirt and oxidation.
Now here are the final photos! I hope you enjoy this as much as I do, I know it is not 100% original, but it is now also the only one like it in the world!
