The backup server needed an upgrade, both in capacity and speed!
Step one, get a large assortment of SAS drives and load up an old Dell PowerVault storage shelf, and connect it up to a server running TruNas with ZFS.

Had to upgrade the network first though, the old 24 port Dell Power connect switch was full! both the SFP+ 10 gig ports and the 1 gig ports, good news is they support stacking! so just got a second one off ebay, that came with a huge extended warranty! And linked it up with a 10.5 gig HDMI cable! the software treats both as one large switch! This gave me 2 more SFP+ 10 gig ports, and 24 more 1 gig ports, Next was to setup the TruNas server.

Found a 10 gig card that works with TruNas a Solarflare SFN6122F card on ebay for $27.99 and it works in Windows too! The SFP’s I had to find a special one to make it happy, the Finisar FTLX8571D3BCL was $7 on ebay shipped! I got a pair, these worked with both the Dell PowerConnect 5524 switch and the Solarflare card, for 10 gig! The new setup is so much faster I can transfer 24TB of data in a few hours!
The backup sync now works fast and quick for each backup cycle.
