Picked up this old Binks Pressure pot some time ago, been wanting to restore it.
First step was to tear down all the regulators and plumbing to make sure everything was in working order.
A new polish and paint of all the fitting and the gauges was in order. Next step will be the pot!
For those curious like I was on what it is and how it worked here is a video I found,
Just need to hunt down a gun for it now!
Next step will be the restoration of the tank, I LOVE the green it is now, and may try and find the OSHA SAFETY GREEN paint to refinish it with!
WOW! Great job! Cannot believe how clean you make things and how new looking.
Question: Is any tape or paste applied to the fittings for sealing. Like Pipe tape etc.?
Gage faces look good too. Paint color, spot on. What will it be used for?
There is no sealing tape yet, that will come once the project is finished and I plumb up everything for the last time. ( The regulators are on backwards at present )
This is going to be a super random question, but do you remember if there is a rubber diaphram inside of that regulator?
I am rebuilding one of these Binks regulators and It doesnt seem to have a diaphram so to speak and leaks out of the small weep hole on the front.
Not Random at all! Love these types of questions. You had me curious as well, I went back to the lab and took the regulator apart again to check. Look like it has a fabric style diaphragm disk, with a rubber ring on the outside to seal against the top cover of the regulator.
And here is both ends, looks like no other seals.
My guess is if you have air coming out of the front vent hole, the diaphragm or the rubber seal is damaged and air is making its way around the seal and into the top. And like you suspected would make it not work properly! there is a chance some RTV may work if you let it set up before sealing up the top cover.
Hope that helps! Let me know if you need any more photos!
Good luck with your project.
I have several 60 gallon units I need refurbed. Do you do this for a fee? Please contact me. Thanks!
Kevin, Thanks for your comment! Sadly, I only do these for fun, and exploration. I do not offer my restorations as a service.
