Recent addition to the collection is this 1940’s RC Allen Model 85 Figuring Machine. A fully mechanical adding machine with printer. This video will explain more.
Next step was to clean it up and fix all the stuck keys, this involved removing the button keys with a gentle pry from the bottom with a screwdriver as a pivot.
Here are some inside shots before I started to clean everything up.
Once inside, I started to clean things up as I went, removed all ink, and crud and grime, and dust, and used a mini wire wheel on many of the metal parts.
Here was how I went about fixing the one bad key that would not hold the selection.
I was cleaning every part as I went through it, the base was worth a pull, sand blast, and re finish.
The paper feed was very much a project, I pulled it completely apart so I could clean and lubricate every part. What an adventure to get it all back together!
And here it is all done, all put back together, and shined up!
I love how it turned out, the finish is not 100% and I like it that way, it has a well cared for look about it. And it works good as new! Here is a video of the full walkthrough of all features and how it works.
